Developments in the ECI
The European Commission is continuning to revise and simplifiy their proposed Regulation covering the implementation of the European Citizens' Initiative
Today (22 June) Parliament is considering the current draft of the Regulation. A week ago, it was considered by the European Council (ie member states). Key issues include:
- Whether there is a need for a formal intermediate check once 100,000 (previously 300,000) signatures have been reached
- Whether national ID numbers are really needed to allow online signatures to be validated
- How the online ECI systems will be certified.
